On April 9th, 2019 a friend and I were sitting in row X in section 222 at a mostly empty Target Center watching the Timberwolves take on the future NBA Champion Toronto Raptors. KAT gave a short speech in street clothes before the game for fan appreciation night and then we watched the Timberwolves lose by twenty in Mitchell Creek’s only appearance in a Timberwolves uniform. I don’t remember much about the game but I do remember having a rough day and still how much joy this team brought to me even though we were playing for nothing. Last night me and that same friend sat in the lower bowl and watched the Timberwolves blow out the Knicks 117-100. He said to me as we walked out of the Target Center “Wolves in six” already discussing a playoff series that will hopefully happen in sixty-nine more games something unheard of prior to Antony Edwards. These are the fans the western conference leading Timberwolves are playing for. The fans who sat through a fifteen year playoff drought. The fans who sat through failed draft pick after draft pick. The fans who have only had one season in thirty plus years where we won a playoff series. As thanksgiving nears I can say that I am thankful not just for this team but for all those other teams because they make this team just a little more sweeter.
While the Timberwolves lost their win streak in Arizona on the second night of a back to back last week the team showed great fight against a team that will be great when April arrives. They finished the road trip by getting one of the most gritty victories of the year beating New Orleans 121-120 as KAT shined. After this the Wolves became the one seed in the Western Conference and while it is very early and the west will be tight all year it feels amazing. This team has found so many different ways to win in only ten wins so far. Last night Jaden Mcdaniels went down early in the victory so NAW and Troy Brown Jr stepped up. With a fierce defense and a flow on offense that allows all players on the floor to get good shots and touches it is beautiful basketball to watch. While I could go more into the basketball side of things today I am going to take the time to be thankful this holiday. This is a team that is easy to love and root for and I am looking forward to covering the highs and the lows as the season continues. We play Philadelphia tomorrow night and then have a huge in season tournament game vs Sacramento Friday before heading down to Memphis Sunday afternoon. The Timberwolves have become appointment television at this point. Finally I would like to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you that take the time to read my blog about this team that I love so much. I am very thankful that I have the opportunity to write about this team every week among the other huge blessings in my life.
