Naz Reid.
On February 21st, 2020 I went to a Timberwolves vs Celtics game where I got to sit in the lower bowl. This is pretty rare for me as a broke college student at the time but I had gotten the tickets from some friends. As we arrived in the arena there was little energy the closest guy to us was about five rows ahead of us and he was wearing a number 11 Reid jersey. While this is common practice now at the time he was just an undrafted rookie who fought for playing time on a (16-37) team. As Naz competed alongside Timberwolves greats like Kelan Martin, Alan Crabbe, and James Johnson I noticed the fan in front of us would celebrate his every move. Soon my friend’s father got to talking with him and that is how he met Naz’s dad. Reid scored 19 points that night and instantly became one of my favorites on the team.
As you can imagine as the trade for Rudy happened I worried Naz’s days would be numbered in Minnesota. Since the trade he has done what he has done every NBA season and just got better. He took a hometown discount to stay with us and our city embraces everything Naz Reid. So while the official West Coast Hoops page thinks Monk was robbed. (I had Monk until his injury cost him) I choose to embrace Naz Reid and wish a hefty congratulations to him on winning six man of the year.
A little over week after I wrote my article “Why I am afraid of the Suns” I was in the building for our dominant game 1 victory. I was surprised by the way we were able to hold Beal and Booker in check which is more proof of our dominant defense. On Tuesday being able to take a 2-0 lead despite KAT and ANT playing poorly was euphoria. The Wolves hope to wrap up the series this weekend on Friday and Sunday.
